Lost My _

A game by younger kiddos love is: "Lost My
_" (Patner) The teacher sings, "Lost my red leaf* what'll I do? (X3) What'll I do my darlin'?" (to the tune of "Lost My Partner") While T sings, one student (invited by the teacher by name) hunts for the item. Once the item is found and brought to the teacher the child reads the movement word written on the back. Then EVERYONE gets up and moves as the teacher sings the B section of the song, "Skip**, skip, skip to my Lou (X3) Skip to my lou, my darlin"

  • * shamrock, Easter Egg, snowman, flower, etc. **jog, gallop, trot, walk, tiptoe, etc. I also notate simple 4-beat rhythmic patterns on the back of the die cut shapes.

I don't have "dance" for it, but I do have a movement activity. I put the words head, shoulder, knee, foot, hand, hip, eyes, elbow on the board. I point at a word and the class moves that body part to the beat of the music. After they get the hang of it, I pass the pointer off to a student and have them switch out every 15-20 seconds.
